Nisenan Culture
Nisenan Culture is rich, Ancient, and inextricably connected to the land. Conservative estimates by modern scientists date artifacts from this land to more than 13,000 years old. For the Nisenan, time is not measured and counted in this way. The Nisenan calendar goes back to "time beyond memory" and includes the time before humans were made. Creation stories reveal the deep connection to the Earth and all aspects, beings, spirits of the Earth. Cultural expression happens through dance, song, prayer, offerings, etc. is always done to show gratitude to the Creator; the Animals; the Spirits; and the Ancestors.
